Today is National Ag Day – a day to recognize and celebrate the hardworking men and women who provide us with the safest, most abundant and most affordable food supply in the world.
Agriculture employs one in seven working Texans and brings more than $100 billion a year to the state’s economy. Yet few people truly understand how agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use and wear on a daily basis – from the shampoo in our bathrooms to the fuel in our cars. National Ag Day is an occasion to recognize and celebrate the farmers and ranchers who contribute so much to the health, well-being and prosperity of our great state and country.
I invite Texans to take time on March 15 to celebrate National Ag Day by visiting TDA’s new Agriculture is Your Culture website. The website will show you agriculture has no boundaries and also will dispel myths that are distorting public perception about our industry. In addition to telling the true story of agriculture, the website also offers information on buying local and includes new GO TEXAN recipes.
Please join me today in extending a heartfelt thank-you to our hardworking farmers and ranchers who bring food and so much more to our daily lives.
